New Website

Hi, this is my first blog post on the new - still fairly empty - website using wordpress. I am using this as a testbed for best-practice website creation with AI. My toolchain is:

  1. WordPress hosted.
  2. local copy of wordpress directories and files downloaded by sftp.
  3. local copy of WordPress DB created using MariaDB and backup from hosted phpMyAdmin
  4. vscode with a devcontainer to work on the site. WordPress is running on the local copy in the devcontainer.
  5. Github CoPilot connected to vscode.
  6. Github repository containing my project setup, changed themes and DB backups, Excluding passwords and main WordPress codebase.
  7. Live viewing of locally running website in vscode on localhost:8000 in the devcontainer.
  8. VSCode tasks to import and export the WordPress database
  9. Credentials for the local DB are passed in via environment variable (set in the devcontainer build) but default to the live site values. So, I do not need separate wp-config.php files.

And Github CoPilot can make changes to the website locally as I request.

Upload consists of uploading the WordPress files that have changed back to the Hosted site (sftp) and using the hosted phpMyAdmin to import the exported local DB.

This may not be the ultimate version of the stack for me, but it has worked for a complete round trip with git backup so far.
